A cable is fed through the old sewer pipe and then attached to a spear shaped tool called a bursting head. The bursting head is in turn, attached to the new sewer pipe which is made of an extremely strong and flexible material called HDPE. The new sewer pipe is pulled via the cable with the bursting head leading the way. The old sewer pipe is broken up or “bursted” into tiny pieces making way for the new pipe. For this process, only two minor holes are excavated at each end to accommodate the process.
